(Under the "Welcome" thread) rjlanz asked: " I heard somewhere that if you are consuming fruits and vegetable or their juices that it is best to not consume them together because they can neutralize each others enzymes or something else and that you should either have fruits in the morning and veggies in the afternoon or visa versa.
Is this true or is it OK to mix them in the same meal? "
I have read similar things but so far, I haven't really seen anything in the way of "proof" regarding this. So I would say follow your own instinct on it until someone can offer a good reason as to why this would be true. I blend them together and haven't noticed any particular problems.
Also, some people have a hard time getting used to straight vegetable juice, so I personally see no problem mixing them together at first and then gradually changing the proportions as one's tastes start to change. Of course, if it causes any physical discomfort, then that would be a different situation. For example, I love the taste of apple juice and apple cider mixed together, but it doesn't sit well with me, so I don't drink that particular combination.
Maybe some of our visitors will know more about this and can contribute to the thread.

Jayne and Rjlanz According to the Natural Hygienist group, mixing both fruits and vegetables together at the same meal causes digestive stress because of the different enzymes it takes to digest each type of food. I would think though, that jucing would not be as bad because there isn't much digesting needed for raw juces. I know that I try to never eat a salad and fruit at the same meal. I have been doing that for 20 years. Thanks Jayne for the message board and I look forward to learning from others. Nick

You are absolutely correct on this, and since posting my previous response (above), I came across the explanation. One of my "gripes" about some of the articles I read is that they lay down "rules" but never give the reasons behind the rules. I'm kind of a "show me" person, so I tend not to adopt rules until I know why I'm adopting them. For example, there seems to be a general concensus that eating eggs is 'bad" but but so far, very few aritcles I've read explain the reason for this. I have now come across a few explanations, with the most recent one being that they are highly likely to cause allergies in a large number of people. A second example that I wondered about for a long time is that it is said one should eat canteloupe by itself (not even with other fruit) with no reason given as to why. But little by little, the answers are falling into place, and my goal as an educator is to supply the "whys" and "wherefores" for these things as I learn them.
I consider people like you who take the time to contribute your knowlege to be a blessing. No matter how many degrees I end up with after my name, I will always consider myself a student. There is so much to learn, and I look forward to a lifetime of education!
Thank you for taking the time to respond!

Thank you Pat. You are absolutely right about Juice Plus+. The rules of the organization severely restrict what I can or cannot say about it on my web site, which is why any references to it here are very subtle. I would like to shout to the whole world the benefits of Juice Plus+, and would if I could. Anyone interested in this product can learn more about it or purchase it directly from www.juiceplus.com/+jb64811.
