Hi Bob,
Over the past several months you and I have discussed the need for whole food supplements. Up until recently, I had taken the position that if people would eat correctly, they really didn't need to take supplements. As you know, synthetic supplements definitely are not the answer. However, a lot of people (myself included in the past) believe that regular supplements are a good thing, and it has only been fairly recently that studies have come out showing that isolated substances can be harmful to take. The reason is because nothing comes isolated in nature. It always comes packaged with the other nutrients that are necessary for its proper similation into the body. When we start messing with things we don't really understand (like taking too much vitamin A, for example, or taking calcium without magnesium) we are playing Russian Roulette.
However, whole food supplements are not drugs, they are foods, just the same as if they had been picked off the tree or vine. They have all the necessary components present so that they encourage rather than discourage good health. The only difference is that all the water has been removed.
What I have finally come to realize is that some people (many people?) simply will not give up their bad dietary habits! It always amazes me, but it is, nevertheless a sad fact of life. So what can we offer them? I really do believe the answer is the concentrated whole food capsules, and for that reason, I have decided to become a distributor for a product called Juice Plus that I really think fills the bill here. As I write this, I am looking forward to receiving my first order so that I can begin using this added insurance myself. Even a "health nut" like me, and maybe ESPECIALLY a health nut like me, can benefit from this added nutrition. I say that because with my busy schedule, it IS hard to eat properly all the time. I do a pretty good job of it, but let's face it, there are times when I haven't had time to go to the store for fresh produce and there is nothing fresh in the house to eat! I make the best choice possible under the circumstances, but it usually leaves something to be desired.
One thing I have to say is that when I don't get my fresh fruits and vegetables, I REALLY miss them!
Thanks for telling me about Juice Plus and being patient while I went through all my mental gymnastics over the "compromise" issue. It really is not a compromise after all, and I hope others will look into this as well.
